Financial and Business Services Workforce Collaborative

Call_Center_AgentThe Financial and Business Services Workforce Collaborative is an initiative of the Regional Employment Board of Hampden County  to  develop a strategic approach to address the existing and projected workforce needs of our industry employers. In addition,  this alliance that has been formed to address the immediate issue of a middle skills workforce gap in entry level customer service, call center operators and bank teller job applicants.

Key partners include Training Workforce Options (TWO), Holyoke Community College, Springfield Technical Community College, Putnam Vocational Academy, call centers representing finance, insurance, healthcare, hospitality, the banking industry and economic development agencies. The  MassMutual Financial Group  is a co-founder and primary driver of this collaborative. The finance and insurance industry is projected to grow 20% by 2020 and the business support services, which provides back-office services to this industry is also project to grow. The goal of this collaborative is to establish a “Center of Excellence” for Financial and Business Services Training in the region.

New Project Implementation

The Regional Employment Board of Hampden County has been awarded a MA Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund grant to provide training in Advanced Call Center and Customer Service skills  to support the financial and business services industry. In order to address the “skills gap”, sixty (60) trainees who are unemployed or under employed and have not achieved a associates degree or higher will be selected for this program which addresses the need for “middle skills” training opportunities. In addition, a minimum of twenty (20) of the trainees will be selected to participate in an “advanced bilingual training” program that will compliment the primary training program. training begins in September 2013 and will be provided by Springfield Technical Community College and Holyoke Community College.
