Advanced Manufacturing Training Starting in January 2018

Beginning in January, 2018, three Advanced Manufacturing Training Programs will be available to underemployed and unemployed Hampden County residents. These training programs will be conducted in Chicopee, Palmer and Westfield. These programs are funded through a grant from the MA Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.

What you will learn in either of the three training programs: 

  • Shop Safety
  • Applied Math
  • Blueprint Reading
  • Composition of metals and other materials
  • Machining Theory
  • Using Measurement Devices such as calipers, micrometers and gauges
  • Quality Control
  • Introduction to basic shop equipment and tools
  • Manual and CNC Machine operations

Manufacturing Training Program # 1 – Westfield Technical Academy

The REBHC, in collaboration with the Western Massachusetts Chapter of the National Tooling and Machining Association (WMNTMA), will conduct a 230 hour, fifteen (14.4) week manufacturing training program for fourteen (14) unemployed/underemployed Hampden County residents using the manufacturing training program at Westfield Technical Academy (WTA) as the training venue. The program will provide participants with the basic competencies to obtain entry-level employment as CNC Operators in high/medium volume production positions.

Training Schedule

Westfield Tech Training Program

  • 57.5 (58) Days, 14.4 weeks
  • Program Start Date; Monday, January 8th, 2018
  • Projected End Date with training during winter and spring break: Thursday, April 19th (contract to 4-25-18 to cover 3 snow days)
  • Training Time: 3:30-7:30
  • Training Days: Monday-Thursday

Manufacturing Training Program # 2 – Chicopee Comprehensive High School

The REBHC, in collaboration with the Western Massachusetts Chapter of the National Tooling and Machining Association (WMNTMA), will conduct a 230 hour, fifteen (14.4) week training program for fifteen (15) unemployed/underemployed Hampden County residents using the manufacturing training program at Chicopee Comprehensive High School (CCHS) as the training venue. Technical instructors from CCHS will partner with two rotating manufacturing/engineering technicians currently employed at Smith & Wesson in Springfield, in a co-teaching delivery model. The program model is designed to provide participants with entry level machining competencies focused primarily on the operation of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment

Chicopee Comprehensive Training Program

  • 57.5 (58) Days, 14.4 weeks
  • Program Start Date: Tuesday, January 9th, 2018
  • Program End Date: Thursday, May 3rd, 2018 (no training during winter and spring break)
  • Training Days: Monday – Thursday
  • Training time: 4:00 – 8:00 pm

Manufacturing Training Program # 3 – Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School

The REBHC, in collaboration with the Western Massachusetts Chapter of the National Tooling and Machining Association (WMNTMA), will conduct a 230 hour, nineteen (19.2) week training program for fifteen (15) unemployed/underemployed Hampden County residents using the manufacturing training program at Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School (PATH) as the training venue.  The program model is designed to provide participants with entry level machining competencies focused primarily on the operation of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment.

Pathfinder Tech Training Program

  • 57.5 (58) Days, 19.2 weeks
  • Program Start Date; Monday, January 8th, 2018
  • Program End Date: Monday, June 4th, 2018 (no training during winter and spring break)
  • Training Time: 3:00-7:00
  • Training Days: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
